For LISTROS Conference we collaborated with WOLAITA DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION IN ADDIS ABABA (WODA AA OFFICE), because according to the Addis Ababa police statistics about 85% of the 39,000 LISTROS holding different occupations in public places within the so-called informal sector of the capital hail from the southern regions of the country around Wolaitta.
Wolaitta is the name of both the people and area in Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Regional State (SNNPRS) located about 330 kilometers south west of Addis Ababa.
The Wolaittas living in the approximately 4,400 square kilometer area are one of the indigenous peoples of Ethiopia. They have their own culture, traditions, political legacy and empire. The Wolaittas' approximately 200 clans are divided into two main tribes called Malla and Dogala. As they established their settlements along the Omo River, historians classify this peoples as the Omotic family. Theirs is one of Ethiopias' five language families.
